We are seeking a Principal Engineer – High-Speed Optical Transceivers to lead the architecture, design, and development of next-generation high-speed optical transceiver products. This role requires deep expertise in optical communications and advanced modulation technologies, and will serve as a technical authority guiding products from concept through volume manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities- Lead system architecture and end-to-end design of high-speed optical transceivers (e.g.,
100G / 400G / 800G / 1.6T
) - Define and own optical, electrical, mechanical, thermal, and firmware requirements
- Drive technology selection including lasers, modulators, drivers, TIAs, DSPs, photodiodes, optics, and packaging
- Analyze and optimize PAM4 and coherent optical links
, including link budgets and performance margins - Oversee design verification, validation, and qualification testing
- Troubleshoot complex issues related to signal integrity, BER, jitter, optical performance, and reliability
- Partner with ASIC/DSP, firmware, hardware, manufacturing, and quality teams
- Lead supplier technical reviews and manage component/vendor technical engagement
- Support manufacturing ramp, yield improvement, and cost optimization
- Interface with customers on technical requirements, failure analysis, and field issues
- Ensure compliance with industry standards (IEEE 802.3, OIF, relevant MSAs, Telcordia)
- Mentor senior and junior engineers and provide technical leadership across the organization
- Master’s or PhD in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field
- 10+ years of hands-on experience in high-speed optical transceiver design and development
- Deep expertise in:
- High-speed Ser Des and signal integrity
- PAM4 and/or coherent modulation
- Optical module packaging and thermal design
- Optical and electrical characterization methods
- Proven ability to lead complex, cross-functional technical programs
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills
- Experience with QSFP-DD, OSFP, CFP2-DCO
, or similar form factors - Knowledge of DFM/DFA, reliability testing, and qualification standards
- Experience supporting hyperscale data center or telecom customers
- Prior role as Principal Engineer, Architect, or Technical Lead
- Flexibility to support teams in multiple time zones preferred. Mandarin language proficiency preferred but not required.
