Under general supervision, the Chief Inspector – Residential implements the codes and ordinances adopted by the City of Round Rock that pertain to the construction of one and two family dwellings and secondary structures, as well as supervise residential inspectors in their daily duties
Posted pay range is the starting salary. Pay rate offered is based on experience.
Responsibilities- Reviews plans when submitted by contractors for preconstruction; inspects all phases of construction; maintains a professional relationship with contractors; verifies document violations; being available for meetings and communicates with other city divisions.
- Supervises residential inspectors; meets with inspectors on job sites to access uncommon building practices and resolve conflicts or disagreements with contractors; assigns inspectors to special need projects and keeps supervisor aware of any change.
- Maintains knowledge of current codes by continuing education and reviewing codes; communicates with colleagues regarding application; hosts and attends meetings with suppliers and attends meetings with other cities in the region to help evaluate our procedures.
- Records, documents and performs clerical functions by entering inspection reports into city database; makes initial inspections to assess; researches and cross references paper files; follows up on STOP WORK postings and nonresponsive permitted job locations.
- Checks on demands or emergency inspections by conducting rebuild inspections of electrical service; reconnect inspections of gas service; responds to fire and police to assess structural integrity and/or resumption of utility service after an event.
- Graduation with an Associate's Degree from an accredited college, technical, business, vocational, or correspondence school.
- Minimum five (5) years of experience as residential or building inspector with the ability to demonstrate a thorough understanding of residential building codes and applications is required. Additional work experience may substitute for the Associate's degree on a one to one basis.
- Combination Residential Certification;
- Plumbing Certification;
- Valid Class C Driver's License;
- State Plumbing Inspectors License.
