To provide clinical support in the Pre‑Operative Assessment (POA) Unit and act as an autonomous practitioner. Undertaking both formal and informal teaching to cascade knowledge, skills and promote best practice within the POA service. The Pre Assessment Nurse Practitioner will be responsible for planning, delivering and evaluating care to meet patients needs. Carry out duties under the direction of Department Sister providing a pre‑operative assessment service for all patients accessing the unit.

To work within the organisation's policies, standard operating procedures and guidelines. To maintain effective communication with the multi‑professional team about patient care. To develop knowledge and skills appropriate to the role and work area. To contribute to the development of services and quality improvements.

• Sound clinical knowledge in all aspects of pre‑operative assessment
• Understands the concepts of clinical governance and shared governance including evidence based practice and critical appraisal of research findings.

• Demonstrates knowledge of effective risk management
• Knowledge of current NHS issues including performance targets and the wider modernisation agenda
• Knowledge of national nursing agenda and application to role
