VIM Department Manager The Role
We are seeking an experienced VIM Department Manager to take full responsibility for managing a primary melting department within a complex manufacturing operation. This is a senior leadership role, accountable for safety, people, quality, delivery, and cost, with a strong focus on continuous improvement and operational excellence.
The successful candidate will lead and develop a skilled technical team, drive departmental performance, and ensure the operation runs safely, efficiently, and in line with customer and business requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and manage all aspects of health, safety and environmental compliance within the department
- Develop, coach, and motivate teams, including performance management, succession planning, and employee relations
- Ensure compliance with quality systems, customer requirements, and internal audit standards
- Drive productivity, efficiency, and responsiveness to production schedules and demand
- Manage departmental budgets, costs, and consumables in line with business targets
- Work cross-functionally with production, planning, quality, engineering, and supply chain teams
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives, including 5S, hazard reduction, and process improvement
- ONC / HNC (or higher) in a relevant technical or engineering discipline
- Proven management experience within a manufacturing or process-driven environment
- Strong understanding of process management (Six Sigma or similar desirable)
- Experience working within high-quality, safety-critical operations
- Strong commercial awareness, including cost control and manpower planning
- Confident user of Microsoft Office (intermediate to advanced level)
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to lead and influence at all levels
- Strong leadership presence with a proactive, hands‑on approach
- Ability to manage across functions and drive business objectives
- High standards, personal discipline, and attention to detail

- Competitive salary of £45,000 - £53,000 depending on experience
