VIM Department Manager

The Role

We are seeking an experienced VIM Department Manager to take full responsibility for managing a primary melting department within a complex manufacturing operation. This is a senior leadership role, accountable for safety, people, quality, delivery, and cost, with a strong focus on continuous improvement and operational excellence.

The successful candidate will lead and develop a skilled technical team, drive departmental performance, and ensure the operation runs safely, efficiently, and in line with customer and business requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage all aspects of health, safety and environmental compliance within the department

Develop, coach, and motivate teams, including performance management, succession planning, and employee relations

Ensure compliance with quality systems, customer requirements, and internal audit standards

Drive productivity, efficiency, and responsiveness to production schedules and demand

Manage departmental budgets, costs, and consumables in line with business targets

Work cross-functionally with production, planning, quality, engineering, and supply chain teams

Champion continuous improvement initiatives, including 5S, hazard reduction, and process improvement

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

ONC / HNC (or higher) in a relevant technical or engineering discipline

Proven management experience within a manufacturing or process-driven environment

Strong understanding of process management (Six Sigma or similar desirable)

Experience working within high-quality, safety-critical operations

Strong commercial awareness, including cost control and manpower planning

Confident user of Microsoft Office (intermediate to advanced level)

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to lead and influence at all levels
