A Theatre Healthcare Support Worker (HCSW) assists the surgical team by preparing theatres, supporting patients, managing equipment and supplies, and ensuring cleanliness and waste disposal, all while maintaining confidentiality and following strict policies for safe patient care before, during, and after surgery. They work as part of a multidisciplinary team, requiring good communication.
Main duties of the jobPatient Care:
Escorting patients to theatres, transferring/positioning them, and supporting them.
Theatre Preparation & Maintenance:
Setting up instruments and equipment, checking stock levels, restocking supplies, and cleaning/tidying areas post-surgery.
Surgical Support:
Managing specimens, assisting with blood product collection/administration, and ensuring all safety procedures (like WHO checklists) are followed.
Team
Collaboration:
Working closely with surgeons, nurses, anaesthetists, and other staff; communicating effectively with families and patients.
Compliance:
Adhering to Trust policies, mandatory training, and procedures for infection control, health & safety, and confidentiality

Person Specification Experience- Experience of Care
- Willingness to undertake the Care Certificate education and training package
- Willingness to undertake Functional skills level 2 Maths & English if not already qualified at GCSE Grade C/4 or equivalent level in Maths & English
- Confidentiality understanding of Information Governance
- Knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety
- Knowledge and understanding of current healthcare issues
