Overview
Astute's Power team is partnering with a global O&M Contractor on a Biomass Power Station located in Rotherham. This plant can produce approximately 41 MW of power, enough to supply 78,000 homes in the local area. As an Assistant Shift Team Leader / Control Room Operator you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the plant, including start‑up and shutdown, plant inspections and compliance with Health & Safety legislation.
Responsibilities- Start, stop and monitor turbines, boilers, pumps and the water‑treatment plant using a DCS system.
- Ensure the plant operates within its parameters while complying with HSE rules, company policies and procedures.
- Provide technical supervision and assistance to company and contract staff working on the site.
- Take part in first‑line maintenance activities, including plant inspections and actions that maximise availability.
- Work within the Company Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality systems.
- Relevant technical qualification such as a C&G, NVQ, ONC, HNC in an engineering discipline.
- At least three years of experience in an operational environment on a power station or heavy process facility with a steam‑raising plant (energy from waste, coal, CCGT, biomass, CHP, nuclear or utilities).
- Ideally an IOSH or NEBOSH qualification.
- Ambition to develop into a Shift Team Leader.
- Comfortable working alone and as part of a shift team.
- Able to carry out extended plant walks, including working at height.
