Overview
The Department of Urology is a dynamic and progressive unit providing care in all the sub-specialities, including urological laparoscopy, interventional stone disease, female and reconstructive urology, and medical and surgical andrology. Radical pelvic surgery for cancer is provided by Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. The service is supported by a nurse consultant and a cancer nurse specialist in addition to both UK and overseas trainees.
The facilities are located in a bespoke integrated unit which caters for in-patients, out-patients and chemotherapy.
The duties of a successful candidate include:
- Provide a Urology service for inpatient and outpatient services and for the proper functioning of the department in collaboration with other urology team members.
- Attend daily ward rounds, clinics, and theatre; undertake daily ward rounds with direct consultant supervision and participate in supervised clinics, endoscopy, and theatre sessions.
- Support the development of outpatient and inpatient services; contribute to junior medical staff management, teaching, examinations, and accreditation duties; participate in postgraduate, local, regional, and national education activities.
- Engage in research and clinical audit activities; participate in MDT meetings; contribute to management and leadership within the department and wider trust.
- Provide training and service in the treatment of benign prostatic hypertrophy, stone disease, general and paediatric urology, follow-up, and diagnosis of bladder and prostate cancer.
- Potential opportunities for independent theatre sessions with consultant support, and opportunities for junior staff teaching with a named consultant for advice and guidance.
- On-call/full shift duties:
Full time job with no current out-of-hours commitments.
Essential
- Full registration and a licence to practice with the GMC; MBBS Medical Degree;
Please confirm your GMC number. - History taking and examination skills; evidence of foundation competencies or equivalent in line with GMC standards/Good Medical Practice; good record keeping; mastery of basic clinical skills with adults (history, examination, bloods, cannulation); basic life support skills.
- Previous NHS experience at Junior/Senior Clinical Fellow level; evidence of audit and the implementation of change following the audit.
Desirable
- Relevant research published in a peer-reviewed journal.
