SummarySummary: Under basic supervision, operates automated collection vehicles along assigned route to collect, compact, and transport solid waste to landfills.
Responsibilities- Performs safety inspection on collection vehicle and equipment at the start and end of each shift; washes and fuels vehicle at the end of each shift.
- Operates automated and grappler collection vehicles; controls mechanical arm to lift containers to load and compact solid waste; monitors levels in the truck hull; unloads waste at landfill when full.
- Communicates with supervisor via radio as issues arise.
- Supports the relationship between the City of Roswell and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
Education, Training, and
Experience:
High school diploma or GED equivalent AND two years' experience operating heavy automotive trucks; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

- Safety policies, practices and procedures.
- Proper operation methods of an automated collection vehicle.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers and the public.
- Communicating effectively verbally and in writing and following instructions.
- Reading and interpreting road maps
- Operating automated collection vehicle efficiently and safely.
- Must possess and maintain a Class B Commercial Driver's License issued by the state of Mexico State.
Work is performed throughout the City of Roswell; requires constant operation of a vehicle, some physical efforts, and possible exposure to dangerous tools and equipment. Safety precautions must be followed including use of safety equipment.
Pre-employment Requirements- Must be able to pass a rigid background investigation including work history, criminal records, driving records and other records deemed necessary.
- Must pass a pre-employment limited physical given by a City-designated physician.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screen administered by a City-designated facility.
- Incumbent is required to provide proof of immunization for Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis (Tdap) and Hepatitis B within the last 10 years, or obtain immunization within 60 days of appointment.
Incumbents and candidates must maintain a satisfactory driving record and insurability in accordance with the City's insurance carrier.
