POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for maintenance of Chaves County grounds and buildings including preservation of grounds, plumbing, painting, carpentry, custodial and other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
ABILITIES/SKILLSKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Required:
- Some knowledge of business and personal computers and inventory software applications.
- Ability to read and write proficiently.
- Ability to read and understand plans and blueprints.
- Ability to use all equipment, hand, and power tools in a proficient manner.
- Be highly skilled in HVAC, painting, carpentry, plumbing, and electrical.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing in English.
- Establish and maintain effective working relations with co-workers.
- Ability to work well with ever changing priorities and/or situations.
- Work independently using good judgment and decision-making skills.
- Employee must know and understand County Personnel Policy as well as all county and departmental policies pertinent to the position.
- May require some out-of-town travel for training.
- Must be able to maintain an acceptable attendance record, be punctual and meet established deadlines.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
EXPERIENCE AND/OR EDUCATION
:
High school diploma or G.E.D., 2 years’ experience in general maintenance or custodial work, up to two years college/48 hours course work can be substituted for two years’ experience. Education/training in at least one of the construction trades such as plumbing, air conditioning/refrigeration/heating, carpentry or painting, and grounds maintenance.
Must pass annual Detention Center security and protocol training and adhere to New Mexico Detention Center safety standards.
Other: Post offer Drug Analysis Test and/or pre-employment physical. Driver’s license, Employment and criminal Background Investigation.
PHYSICAL DEMANDSThe work is somewhat physical, typically requiring the employee to climb ladders, carry heavy items, walk, stand, and bend. There may be some sitting comfortably to complete work. There may be some operation of a vehicle throughout the county, as necessary. Some local travel within the boundaries of Chaves County is required in the course of job performance. Talking, hearing, and seeing are essential to the performance of the job.
Common eye, hand finger dexterity exists. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, discriminating thinking.
The employee is responsible for all maintenance and custodial duties as assigned by the supervisor. Employee must know and understand County personnel policy and all departmental policies and perform other duties as assigned. Employee must follow County safety policies and practices.
