Position: Physical Plant-Facilities Technician (2 Positions)

Position Overview

The following is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. This list of duties is illustrative only and is not a comprehensive listing of all the functions and responsibilities performed.

Position Summary: The Physical Plant‑Facilities Technician works under the direct supervision of the Physical Plant Foreman and provides support to other maintenance personnel as needed. This position is responsible for general, routine, and preventative maintenance tasks. The technician plays a key role in maintaining the operational functionality, safety, and cleanliness of the facility or campus. Responsibilities include hands‑on support for a wide range of facility‑related services such as routine maintenance, repairs, logistics, and general support tasks.

The technician helps ensure that building systems and work environments remain functional, safe, and compliant with applicable standards—thereby supporting staff productivity and operational continuity.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform routine inspections, maintenance, and repairs on facility equipment and building systems (e.g., HVAC, lighting, plumbing).
  • Provide logistical support for facility operations, including moving furniture, setting up rooms for events, and handling deliveries.
  • Conduct seasonal maintenance such as snow removal, salting, and leaf cleanup.
  • Maintain outdoor areas, including mowing lawns, trimming hedges, repairing irrigation systems, and performing basic landscaping tasks.
  • Respond promptly to service requests and resolve issues efficiently and safely.
  • Monitor inventory levels and restock supplies such as light bulbs, batteries, and cleaning materials.
  • Support safety and compliance efforts by identifying hazards and ensuring adherence to relevant regulations.
  • Assist with emergency response protocols, including power outages, water leaks, and building evacuations.
  • Cleaning and debris removal.
  • Transport materials, tools and equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or deemed necessary.
Requirements Minimum

Job Requirements
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Must possess or complete the National Safety Council Defensive Driving Course (paid for by the employer).
  • Must pass a pre‑employment background check and be willing to complete a pre‑employment physical examination (paid for by the employer).
Preferred
  • One year of experience in maintenance.

Working Conditions
  • Work is typically performed during regular business hours, with occasional evening or weekend shifts to meet deadlines or respond to emergencies.
  • The role involves regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions. Employees may frequently encounter hot or cold temperatures, wet or humid environments, and moving mechanical parts.
  • Occasional exposure to high or precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise levels should be expected.
  • The position requires regular lifting and moving of items up to 10 pounds, frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds, and occasional lifting of over 100 pounds.
  • Physical stamina is essential, including the ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform manual tasks for extended periods.
