Senior Mental Health Substance Abuse Counselor; DOH​/NMRC

New Mexico Rehabilitation Center (NMRC) is a Joint Commission accredited specialty hospital providing rehabilitation services to citizens of the State of New Mexico.

Salary $24.16 - $36.24 Hourly; $50,248 - $75,372 Annually. This position is a Pay Band C6. Preference will be given to candidates with any license related to this position, a minimum of LSAA.

Why does the job exist? As part of an interdisciplinary team, provide a safe therapeutic environment in a clinically managed, substance abuse (mental health enhanced) residential treatment facility that optimizes the client’s opportunity to maintain sobriety and an enhanced quality of life.

How does it get done? Functions as a member of an interdisciplinary team by participating in and contributing to clinical staffing. Engages clients in the therapeutic process and involves interested others (such as family and agencies) in their treatment progress.

Who are the customers? Individuals with mental, emotional and substance abuse problems seeking treatment at NMRC.

Ideal Candidate Licensed LSAA, Licensed Substance Abuse Associate or LADAC, Licensed Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor. Experience conducting educational sessions and completing electronic medical records timely.

Minimum Qualification Associate’s Degree in Human Services or Social Services Counseling and two (2) years of experience in mental health, substance abuse counseling and or behavioral disorder counseling environment. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling four (4) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements This position is designated a safety sensitive. Employment requires successful completion of criminal background and is conditional pending results. Employment is subject to preemployment and random testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing.

Working Conditions Incumbent will work in an acute care hospital and an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Lifting up to fifty (50) pounds may be required. Exposure to potentially violent patients in volatile situations requiring crisis interventions may be required. Some travel with the occasional overnight stay may be required.
