Traffic Signal Technician

Job Summary
The Traffic Signal Technician assists with the installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic signal systems and related components to ensure safe, efficient, and continuous traffic flow.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
* Evaluate work sites, review plans/blueprints, determine materials needed, and set up work safety zones.
* Assist with installation and maintenance of traffic signals and related equipment.
* Install traffic loops and signal detectors; diagnose and troubleshoot signal device malfunctions.
* Repair or replace signal lamps, detectors, lenses, hardware, and traffic signal poles.
* Cut road surfaces for loop installation or repair; locate loops for construction and road repairs.
* Clean control cabinets and perform general preventive maintenance.
* Ensure traffic control devices and signs comply with MUTCD standards.
* Operate machinery and tools including bucket trucks, backhoes, generators, loop saws, voltmeters, and other equipment.
* Perform preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
* Follow safety procedures and assist with traffic control at work sites.
* Maintain knowledge of applicable policies, codes, regulations, and industry updates.
* Attend meetings, committees, trainings, and continuing education activities.
* Monitor supply inventory and request replacement items as needed.
* Communicate with supervisors, coworkers, other departments, and the public.
* Prepare and complete forms, reports, time cards, and documentation.
* Operate general office equipment as needed.
* Assist on-call personnel when required.
Minimum Qualifications
* High school diploma or GED.
* One year of experience in electrical work, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Licenses and Certifications
* Flagger certification (must be maintained).
* Level 1 Technician certification (must be maintained).
* Valid Georgia driver's license with a satisfactory MVR.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Ability to learn and apply city and departmental policies and procedures.
* Ability to compute and summarize data.
* Ability to interpret and apply standards and procedures.
* Ability to operate tools, equipment, and machinery requiring complex adjustments.
* Ability to perform mathematical computations including fractions, percentages, and interpreting graphs.
* Ability to analyze information, exercise judgment, and adapt methods to meet objectives.
Physical Demands
This is heavy work requiring exertion of 50-100 pounds. Regular activities include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting. Must be able to perceive colors, sounds, depth, texture, and visual signals, and communicate orally.
Work Environment
Regular exposure to adverse conditions such as dirt, dust, pollen, wetness, humidity, rain, extreme temperatures, noise, electrical currents, traffic hazards, and heights up to 40 feet.
