Position Overview

As the primary caregivers for each camper in their group, Owlet Camp Counselors must be fun, dynamic and safety‑conscious. Camp Counselors plan and implement daily schedules, lead activities and songs, coordinate with co‑counselors, and communicate with parents.

Essential Functions
  • Supervise the Owlet group, 4‑year‑olds, in an outdoor setting.
  • Lead camper activities with excellence and enthusiasm.
  • Develop and implement environmental education activities (hikes, animal demonstrations, science exploration activities) on a daily basis, program resources provided.
  • Maintain high standards of health and safety in all activities for campers and staff.
  • Clean camp facilities as needed/required.
  • Handle captive wildlife daily in camp programs.
  • Attend weekly camp staff meetings and trainings.
  • Assist in program areas as directed.
  • Contribute to verbal/written evaluations and communication as requested.
  • Keep track of and record hours worked, requesting director’s approval for any additional hours prior to work.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Willingness to work outdoors during the summer season.
  • Must be able to lift over 20 pounds.
  • Valid driver’s license or state‑issued .
  • Current tetanus shot or willingness to obtain one.
Skills
  • Experience (and passion for) teaching or working with young children.
  • Comfortable in an outdoor setting.
  • Background in environmental education, natural history, education, child care, or camps.
  • Willingness to handle captive wildlife, training provided.
