Callan Family Office (CFO) is a national multi-family office serving ultra-high-net-worth families with complex investment, reporting, and operational needs. A core differentiator of the firm is our tax overlay management program, which helps clients manage real-world, after‑tax outcomes across portfolios with significant taxable complexity. We are investing in the technology and operating platform that supports this capability, both to scale our internal operations and to expand it through B2B partnerships.
Aboutthe Role
We are seeking a Director of Trade Operations & Central Trading to own the day‑to‑day trade lifecycle and controls for our centralized trading function across Schwab, Fidelity/NFS, and Pershing, along with a handful of smaller custodian platforms. Our activity is equities‑first (~80% of volume), with additional trading in fixed income securities and mutual funds. This is a hands‑on, high‑ownership role responsible for allocations, settlement, exception management, auditability, and operational risk controls.
FIX protocol is central to our workflows; candidates must have real production experience supporting FIX‑based trading and resolving FIX exceptions with brokers and custodians.
Preferred location:
Roseville, MN office. Alternative locations considered in Callan FO hubs (Arlington, VA, Winston‑Salem, NC, West Palm Beach, FL).
- Own the daily trade lifecycle across equities (primary) plus fixed income/mutual funds: block workflows, allocations (including APS/average price where applicable), settlement, and reconciliations.
- Oversee FIX‑based operations end‑to‑end: monitor order/execution/allocation flows, diagnose and resolve rejects/breaks, and coordinate fixes with OMS/brokers/custodians and internal stakeholders.
- Manage multi‑custodian connectivity and broker relationships: onboarding, SSIs/standing instructions hygiene, and operating procedures for trade‑away/step‑out and prime‑style variants where applicable.
- Drive exception resolution and controls: DKs/fails, allocation errors, cancel/correct workflows, root‑cause analysis, and repeatable runbooks with a clean audit trail.
- Support oversight of OMS workflows that impact trading outcomes: best execution documentation and review support, plus coordination on corporate actions/proxies and related operational deadlines as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree (any field).
- 3–5+ years of hands‑on experience in trade operations / trading support / middle office (RIA, asset manager, family office, broker/dealer, or custodian).
- Direct experience supporting the equity trade lifecycle (blocks, allocations, settlement, reconciliations).
- Production FIX experience: supporting FIX‑based workflows and resolving rejects/breaks with brokers/custodians (not just familiarity with the concept).
- Demonstrated ability to independently resolve operational exceptions under deadline pressure.
- Experience operating in a compliance‑adjacent control environment (documented processes, evidence retention/auditability, supervisory review support, incident management and remediation).
- Hands‑on experience with Schwab, Fidelity/NFS, and/or Pershing trading/ops platforms and service models.
- Operated trade‑away / step‑out / prime brokerage‑related workflows (SSIs/ALERT, PB link documentation, settlement/affirmation conventions).
- Experience supporting corporate actions and proxy‑related operational workflows, including voluntary events and deadline‑driven processing.
- Base salary range: $105,000–$155,000
- Annual discretionary bonus: target based on experience/qualifications; typical range 10%–25% of base salary
