lead the east area signal system inspection program for the metro traffic engineering office as a signal system construction inspector. This position is responsible for providing technical assistance and quality assurance inspections prior to and during construction of traffic signals within the metro district. This position will be responsible for data entry and verification in tams and will also coordinate signal turn‑ons using resources from the signal operations unit and the contractor, verifying that all aspects of the signal have been tested before the turn‑on.

• review as‑let documentation (plans and special provisions).
• recommend for approval any project related documentation including shop drawings and field changes.
• coordinate turn‑on activities with the metro traffic construction and metro traffic technician supervisors, including coordination with the electrical contractor and construction.
• review pre‑letting signal design plans prepared by metro traffic, consultants, local agencies, and permit applicants to ensure that they meet established standards, resulting in uniformity and integrity.
• serve as signal operations technical support liaison.
• investigate in‑field signal operation complaints to identify problems and report any corrective actions needed.
• provide support to central office for signal system recertification training and act as the technical support person in the construction of signal systems.

• four years of experience performing traffic engineering activities as described in the job duties.
• three years of experience performing traffic engineering activities as described in the job duties and one year of experience in any of the following areas: road maintenance, road construction, design, surveying, materials/soils, right of way, sign repair/installation and/or permits.
• note: a two‑year civil or construction technology degree or equivalent may substitute for one year of experience. Degree equivalencies include the following four‑year degrees: architectural, civil or mechanical engineering; land surveying / geomatics. (in order for education coursework to be considered in lieu of work experience you must submit a copy of your transcripts).
• working knowledge of english sufficient to read, write, speak and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in‑person or via two‑way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records.
• a valid class d driver’s license.
