Join our Work Zones and Pavement Markings Unit and play a key role in the design, implementation, and inspection of work zone traffic control and pavement marking in the Metro District.

This position supervises a design squad in the preparation and implementation of MnDOT work zone traffic control and pavement marking plans. This position develops and reviews Traffic Control Plans. This position also reviews project and event work zone traffic control plans prepared by maintenance consultants, local agencies, and permit applicants to ensure that they meet established standards.

This position is located at district headquarters in Roseville and has the flexibility to work in the office or a hybrid schedule that includes in office and teleworking time. If working a hybrid schedule, the incumbent will be required to make a telework arrangement with their supervisor. The incumbent will be expected to work in the office as determined by policy and discussion with their supervisor.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation does not sponsor applicants for work visas or Optional Practical Training Extensions for STEM Students. Individuals must be legally authorized to work in the US at the start of employment.

Minimum Qualifications

Three (3) years of experience as an Engineering Specialist or equivalent that demonstrates:

  • Experience developing and implementing traffic control and pavement marking plans for moderate to large scale projects
  • Traffic engineering principles and standards sufficient to review work zone traffic control plans and ensure they meet established standards
  • Roadway construction practices sufficient to direct development of multiple projects
  • Experience monitoring construction project field conditions and working with internal and external customers to adjust and modify traffic control plans due to unexpected or changing conditions/situations.
Assessment Criteria for Finalists
  • Human relations skills sufficient to develop and maintain relationships and build consensus with MnDOT staff, customers, and peers
