Join our Office of Advancing Equity Unit and play a key role in providing statewide community trust by advancing equity through MnDOT’s contracting and purchasing power. We work to identify opportunities for local small businesses to increase their capacity in ADA construction and inspection activities. We provide resources and expertise to help identify maintenance, professional‑technical, and small construction projects that are well suited to local small businesses.
In this role, you’ll assist the Project Supervisor and/or Chief Inspector by completing inspection activities, project documentation, material testing, and application of Contract enforcement procedures so that the project and contract administration comply with the terms of the Plans, Contract, Specifications, and MnDOT policy.
Job Duties- Perform construction inspection and activities to verify roadway, structure, and related work are constructed in accordance with contract plans, specifications, and MnDOT standards.
- Inspect grading, base, bridge, bituminous, and concrete paving operations to ensure materials, placement, and workmanship meet contract requirements and established quality expectations.
- Measure and document quantities, dimensions, and tolerances of completed work to support accurate payment, compliance verification, and project record documentation.
- Complete daily work reports, pay documentation, force account records, test reports, and related construction records using MnDOT systems to ensure timely and accurate project documentation from letting through finalization.
- Interpret contract plans, specifications, and special provisions to monitor contractor compliance and communicate requirements clearly to project stakeholders.
- Identify field issues or deficiencies, document findings, notify appropriate project personnel, and verify corrective actions to ensure work meets contractual requirements.
- Assist the Chief Inspector, or serve in that role on assigned projects, by coordinating inspection activities, tracking progress, maintaining documentation, and supporting resolution of routine field issues.
- Perform and coordinate field sampling and testing of construction materials, review results, and confirm compliance with MnDOT specifications and quality standards.
- Monitor contractor operations, staging, and traffic control to ensure safe work zones for workers and the traveling public consistent with MnDOT safety policies.
- Support contract administration activities by tracking quantities, monitoring schedules, and recommending follow‑up actions when work does not align with contract requirements.
- Coordinate with project managers, designers, contractors, OAE staff and partners to communicate field conditions, clarify requirements, and support successful project delivery.
