Position: Part-Time Harriet Alexander Program Staff

Summary

The primary responsibility of the Harriet Alexander Nature Center (HANC) Program Staff is to assist in the implementation of environmental education programs and events at the Harriet Alexander Nature Center. This includes material preparation, supporting group management, and facilitating basic activities. The position has continuous public contact requiring tact, courtesy, and good judgment. Program staff work primarily with youth programs throughout our 52 acres of marsh, woodland, prairie, and interpretive center.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Naturalist staff in the implementation of education programs
  • Uphold a friendly, positive, responsible approach with participants and parents
  • Set up, clean up, and maintain program and exhibit spaces, supplies, and equipment
  • Provide a safe environment for participants and enforce established safety policies
  • Support HANC operations, projects, special events, animal care, and other tasks as assigned
  • Continually shows respect for diverse perspectives, backgrounds, and interests. Exhibits sensitivity to the needs of diverse audiences in all duties performed on behalf of the City to support Roseville in building and sustaining an inclusive and equitable working environment and community.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned
Required Skills, Experience, and Education
  • Experience with and knowledge of working cross culturally and with diverse youth preferred. Ideal candidate will have experience working with children and working outdoors.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform the essential functions of the job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Work is performed largely outdoors, with some time in a classroom or office environment. There is exposure to a multitude of elements including heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind. Occasionally the job may involve working with challenging behaviors, particularly from youth. The position may require some weekend and occasional evening work.

Limited lifting of 20 pounds or less is required less than 15% of the time.

The HANC Program Staff is responsible for varied technical, complex, and confidential functions, many of which have deadlines and require significant attention to detail. Approximately 70-90% of the time, work is performed at the highest level of detail under the pressure of deadlines.

Activities that occur constantly (5–8 hours/shift): walking, talking, hearing

Activities that occur frequently (2–5 hours/shift): feeling and eye/hand/foot coordination, repetitive motions, carrying

Activities that occur occasionally (up to 2 hours/shift): sitting, reading, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, grasping, and stooping

Activities that occur rarely (do not exist as regular part of job): lifting, pushing, pulling, climbing, and balancing.

This position is not eligible for Benefits with the City of Roseville.
