Job Summary
Temporary and part‑time Sports Official/Scorer I/II in the Adult Sports Division of the Parks, Recreation & Libraries Department.
Year‑round position limited to 25 hours per week for a maximum of 1,000 hours per fiscal year. Normal work schedule includes Sundays 2pm–11pm and weekdays 5pm–11pm. PERS retired annuitants are not eligible to apply.
LocationMahany and Maidu Regional Parks and various City/school facilities.
ResponsibilitiesScorekeep and/or monitor Adult Sports leagues and programs in the evening.
Qualifications – Experience & Training- Sports Official‑Scorer I – Experience playing, scoring and/or officiating team sports. Training equivalent to completion of 10th grade and sixteen (16) years of age.
- Sports Official‑Scorer II – One season of experience in the subject area. Training equivalent to completion of 10th grade and sixteen (16) years of age.
Possession of CPR and First Aid certificates within six (6) months of hire.
Special RequirementsMust be eighteen (18) years of age or older. Minors may have preclusions or restrictions in duties assigned and licenses required pursuant to 29 CFR § 570.

Selection ProcessAll candidates meeting the minimum qualifications will have their application scored in a Formula Rate Examination. The applicant’s experience and education will be evaluated using a pre‑determined formula. Scores from this evaluation will determine applicant ranking and placement on the Employment List.
Supplemental questions will be utilized by the department hiring authority to make interview and selection determinations.
Final appointment is contingent upon a check of past employment references, passing a City‑paid fingerprint check, and depending on the position applied for, a pre‑employment medical exam, drug and alcohol screening test, credit check, license and/or education verification, psychological examination, and/or an extensive Police Department background check process.
