Assistant Coach – Woodcreek Sea Wolves

The Woodcreek Sea Wolves is accepting applications for the part‑time position of Assistant Coach. The normal work schedule will be March (through early‑mid August, Monday through Friday and Saturdays in May, June, July and early August. If hired, staff will be expected to perform a variety of duties related to planning, organizing and directing various activities of the Woodcreek Sea Wolves competitive swim team.

Qualifications
  • Knowledge of:
    • Principles and techniques of competitive swim.
    • Practices and methods of coaching youth.
    • Principles and practices of water safety and swimming rescue techniques.
    • Principles and techniques of first aid and CPR.
    • Methods in preparing workouts by age group and/or swim level and meet entries.
    • Practices and methods of public relations and customer service; techniques and principles of effective interpersonal communication.
  • Ability to:
    • On a continuous basis, know and understand operations and observe safety rules; walk; swim with proficiency and endurance; render life‑saving measures; interpret policies and procedures, and explain operations and problem‑solve issues for the public and with staff.
    • Intermittently set up booths/tents, hang banners, move tables and carry supplies and equipment; lift or carry weight of 45 pounds or less.
    • Teach competitive swimming techniques.
    • Organize age‑group practices.
    • Supervise swim lanes occupied by Sea Wolves swimmers.
    • Maintain discipline during workouts.
    • Prevent accidents and conduct effective rescues.
    • Understand and translate Sea Wolves policies and practices into everyday working practices; make sound decisions with solid problem‑solving methods.
    • Prepare age‑group workout plans, meet entries and other reports, as needed.
    • Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date records.
    • Work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
    • Understand and carry out written and oral directions.
    • Respond to emergency situations in a calm and effective manner; administer first aid and CPR.
    • Learn to identify problems regarding the facility and program; refer difficult problems/irregularities for more advanced attention and recommend possible solutions.
    • Promote and enforce safety procedures including proper use of equipment.
    • Communicate tactfully with customers, Board of Directors, swimmers, parents and visitors.
    • Communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing.
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Experience and Training

Experience:

  • One full season (4 months) of experience coaching competitive swimming, paid or volunteer. (Volunteer experience may include helping during swim practices.)
  • Experience teaching swimming lessons or competitive stroke instruction, paid or volunteer. (Volunteer experience may include teaching or aiding an instructor in teaching swimming lessons and/or competitive stroke techniques, etc.)

Training:

  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade. License or certificate – send copies of current certifications with completed application. If certifications are NOT current, provide certification course date(s) and locations.
  • Possession of a current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training certificate by date of appointment through entire season.
  • Possession of a current American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certificate by date of appointment through entire season.
  • Possession of a current Safe Sport certification by date assigned by Board of Directors.
Selection Process

Applications will be screened and those applicants meeting the minimum qualifications will be contacted for an interview and they may be asked to show their ability to swim and/or coach a group of competitive swimmers. A mandatory Swim/Coaching Assessment is scheduled for Sunday, February 1, 7‑10am OR Saturday, February 7 at 5‑8:30pm at the Mike Shellito Indoor Pool, 10210 Fairway Drive, Roseville, 95678.

Candidates need only attend one assessment date. Appointment is contingent upon a fingerprint check.
