Position OverviewOur client is seeking a highly accomplished Vice President / Business Development Director to lead and expand our presence within the K-12, DSA, and Public Works construction market in Southern California. This role is ideal for a senior-level business development professional with deep, established relationships across Unified School Districts, public agencies, and DSA-related stakeholders.
The successful candidate will bring a proven track record of originating, developing, and securing large-scale K-12 and public-sector construction opportunities, leveraging long-standing industry connections to drive sustained growth.
Key Responsibilities- Lead business development efforts for K-12, DSA, and Public Works construction projects, with a primary focus on Unified School Districts and public agencies.
- Leverage existing relationships, contacts, and client networks within school districts, bond program leadership, facilities departments, and public works entities.
- Develop and execute strategic business development plans aligned with company growth objectives.
- Identify, pursue, and secure new project opportunities, including negotiated, CM-at-Risk, Design-Build, and best-value procurements.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with:
- School district leadership and facilities teams
- DSA officials and consultants
- Architects, engineers, and program managers
- Public agency decision-makers and influencers
- Collaborate closely with executive leadership, estimating, and operations teams to position the firm competitively.
- Represent the company at industry events, conferences, school board meetings, and professional organizations.
- Track market trends, bond measures, and capital improvement programs to proactively target opportunities.
- Minimum 10–15 years of business development experience within K-12, DSA, and/or public works construction.
- Established, active relationships within:
- Unified School Districts
- K-12 facilities and capital programs
- Public works agencies and DSA-related stakeholders
- Demonstrated success securing large-scale public-sector construction projects.
- Deep understanding of DSA requirements, public procurement processes, and California public contracting.
- Strong reputation within the Southern California K-12 construction market.
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to operate at an executive level while remaining hands‑on in business development efforts.
- Prior experience as a VP, Director, or Senior Business Development leader for a general contractor or construction management firm.
- Existing book of business or immediate access to active K-12/DSA opportunities.
- Experience working within bond-funded school construction programs.
- Executive-level role with significant influence on company growth strategy.
