Job Summary

Manages the overall coding education development, implementation, delivery, and program maintenance for hospital coders. Ensures that Adventist Health facility coders follow all coding regulations, policies, and procedures through the training and education of coders, CDI, compliance, quality, and other revenue cycle support staff on clinical documentation improvement and coding best practices. Reviews medical records and coding documentation for accuracy and ensures that coding and reporting practices comply with federal and state laws while aligning with the strategic goals and objectives of Adventist Health.

Collaborates with other departments and stakeholders to identify areas for improvement and implement best practices for coding and reporting. Plays a critical role in ensuring medical facility billing and coding practices are accurate, efficient, and compliant with regulatory requirements, ultimately contributing to improved patient care and financial sustainability of the organization.

Essential Functions
  • Manages the overall facility coding, inpatient and outpatient education program for hospital facility coders to include course plans, objectives and evaluation tools.
  • Develops and administers continuous coding education in‑service for facility Adventist Health inpatient and outpatient coders to update, refresh, remediate or acquire new skills necessary for coding accuracy and competency.
  • Collaborates with senior leadership, compliance, coding, CDI, quality and auditing to identify coding education opportunities, coder knowledge gaps and develop a coding education pathway to address the gaps.
  • Develops and administers focus ad‑hoc education to mitigate coding trends to ensure proficiency and quality meets company standards.
  • Performs other job‑related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
  • Associate’s/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience:
    Required
  • Bachelor’s Degree:
    Preferred
  • Five years’ related experience:
    Preferred
Licenses / Certifications
  • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) with Certified Coding Specialist (CCS):
    Required
