Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced AP Accountant & Payroll Accountant to support payroll operations, accounts payable, and general ledger functions. This role requires hands-on experience with payroll processing, payroll tax compliance, prevailing wage requirements, timecard auditing, and invoice lifecycle management. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working beyond automated systems and understands the underlying accounting and compliance processes.
ResponsibilitiesPayroll & Compliance
- Process payroll accurately and timely, including manual review and auditing of timecards
- Audit timecards to ensure accurate hours, overtime, and prevailing wage compliance
- Manage prevailing wage payroll, including verification of wage rates and supporting documentation
- Review, reconcile, and submit payroll taxes, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local requirements
- Prepare payroll-related journal entries and reconciliations
- Serve as a payroll subject-matter expert and point of contact for payroll-related questions
Accounts Payable & Purchasing
- Understand and manage the full lifecycle of an invoice, including:
- Purchase order creation and matching
- Invoice review, coding, approval, and posting
- Resolution of discrepancies
- Work with vendors to resolve billing issues and inquiries
- Maintain accurate AP records and supporting documentation
Accounting & Finance
- Perform daily cash posting and bank reconciliations
- Prepare and post general ledger entries
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts and investigate variances
- Assist with month-end and year-end close
- Support internal and external audits as needed
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in accounting and payroll
- Demonstrated experience with payroll tax calculations and filings
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and internal controls
- Must have experience with in-house payroll
- Solid knowledge of accounts payable and purchase order processes
- High attention to detail and accuracy
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in construction, public works, or industries subject to prevailing wage laws
- Audit or compliance support experience in AP & payroll
