General Purpose

The Area Supervisor is a member of the Store Leadership team, responsible for a specific, assigned area of the store and the general operations and supervision of the store when acting as Manager on Duty. Responsibilities include opening and closing the store, supervising associates, maintaining a friendly and efficient shopping environment, ensuring proper merchandise presentation, and maintaining a clean work area.

Area Supervisors also execute and supervise company operational processes as needed.

Essential Functions Maintaining Safe & Secure Environments
  • Practices safe behaviors and maintains safety as the number one priority.
  • Monitors the sales floor to create a safe and secure shopping environment and reports unsafe conditions.
  • Manages building security, including entrance/exit control, EAS device checks, cash office security, and armored carrier pickups.
  • Removes clutter and ensures clear egress to emergency exits.
  • Protects customer safety through accident prevention, reporting and emergency procedures.
  • Tests all fire alarm systems as scheduled and responds to after‑hours alarms when requested.
Customer Service
  • Treats all customers, associates and leaders with respect, courtesy, friendliness and professionalism.
  • Recognizes associates using company recognition programs.
Personal and Store Brand
  • Represents and supports the company brand at all times.
  • Maintains a professional appearance in accordance with the company dress code and ensures all associates do the same.
  • Keeps all store areas clean, well‑maintained and merchandised to standard.
  • Manages daily trash removal.
General Merchandising
  • Ensures recovery, sizing and markdowns are completed to company standards through teaching, assigning tasks and following up.
  • Receives merchandise trucks when needed and processes all merchandise with urgency.
  • Manages non‑merchandise inbound deliveries and keeps stockrooms clean and organized.
  • Helps deliver and place merchandise on the sales floor after processing.
  • Processes back‑stock and ensures it is secured and complies with company policy.
  • Manages merchandising of department back‑stock and floor moves, including signing and promotional activities.
  • Generates re‑wraps when required.
  • Reduces loss due to damage and complies with monthly presentation guidelines.
Loss Prevention
  • Complies with the Loss Prevention Awareness Program and maintains a strong customer service presence on the sales floor.
  • Demonstrates integrity and honesty in all interactions, safeguarding confidential information, cash, credit card information and merchandise.
  • Maintains the Public View Monitor system.
  • Conducts "Code 50" package inspections and executes all company best practices to maximize productivity.
Front End Supervision and Operations
  • Ensures associates execute to company standards at the front end.
  • Manages the queue to expedite customer wait times.
  • Trains and coaches associates on registers, shortage control and other front‑end procedures.
  • Controls retail associates’ break schedule for backups, lunches and breaks.
