* Provides clinical support for public health nursing activities, including screening, testing, immunizations, treatment coordination, referrals, and follow-up. Ensures standing orders, clinical protocols, and evidence-based guidelines are implemented.
* Serves as a clinical resource to staff across multiple public health programs, as applicable. Promotes a trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and client-centered approach to care.
* Ensures DIS staff receive adequate training to foster positive interactions with clients and coworkers. Plans assignments to maximize program coverage. Oversees all workflows, ensuring open workflows are reviewed daily in the DSHS database. Completes performance evaluations for each DIS and develops performance improvement plans when necessary. Provides leadership by setting an example of quality work and guiding the team toward achieving program objectives and goals.
* Ensures all new Disease Intervention Specialists (DIS) complete the DIS Fundamentals Training Plan and conducts post-training assessments. Assists both new and experienced DIS in developing professional growth plans and supports them in selecting and applying for relevant professional development opportunities.
* Responsible for completing all required audits according to DSHS guidelines. This includes preparing monthly reports that cover reviews conducted, tracking case submissions, and reporting on morbidity. Additionally, reviews and approves all cases for closure.
* Prepares schedules for the DIS clinic and field staff, and responds appropriately to any staffing shortages or changes. Ensures an efficient and confidential system for referring clients from clinicians to DIS for interviewing and counseling.
* Coordinates, oversees, and documents STI presentations, and participates in community outreach screenings. Builds and maintains collaborative relationships with community-based organizations to identify target populations and support outreach activities.
* As essential public health personnel, participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.
** MINIMUM

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

*** Bachelor’s degree in Public Health or related field.
* Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) or Registered Nurse (RN) preferred
* Three (3) years of job-related experience in communicable disease and public health, along with two years of experience in a supervisory or leadership role. Phlebotomy experience preferred.
* Proficient in computer usage and typing, with a strong understanding of data collection and analysis.
* General knowledge of STIs, along with leadership, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
* Familiarity with various computer applications and skilled in data entry.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong interpersonal abilities, and the capacity to interact effectively with the public and employees at all levels.
* Well-developed organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet tight deadlines.
* Competent in interpreting policies and implementing procedures efficiently.
* Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) by the Texas Board of Nursing.
* Must provide own transportation and proof of insurance.
