JOB DESCRIPTION:
Primary
Purpose:
Provides campus leadership and monitoring of the special education centralized Compliance-SLC program. Ensures campus systems provide necessary components for students' individualized education plans and are in compliance with all state, federal, and local requirements. The Special Education Compliance Program Coordinator will work with campus administration and other district staff to provide quality special education services for students with severe social and emotional shortfalls.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Major Responsibilities and Duties
* Display an understanding of how to teach and support students with a significant cognitive impairment and struggling with communication, behavior, and self-regulation
* Communicate closely with staff regarding student engagement and the function of students' behavior and appropriate strategies and interventions.
* Coordinate and monitor special education services and provide program recommendations for students with special needs.
* Be fluent in all LCISD special education programming options and provide guidance regarding required data.
* Assist in maintaining records for audit purposes.
* Oversee and monitor systems to ensure expected progress monitoring and data collection are consistently implemented, verifying that all relevant student data is accurately documented and reviewed.
* Oversee and ensure IEP progress reports are completed, archived in Success Ed, and provided to parents.
* Collaborate with staff to analyze progress reports and make data-driven decisions to support student growth and compliance with IEP goals.
* Address student achievement deficiencies by focusing on resources and efforts to promote excellence.
* Provide input for the identification, review, and analysis of resource and equipment needs.
* Maintain an accurate inventory list of all SERS materials on assigned campuses and be responsible for the return of all student materials.
* Keep administration and staff informed on pertinent matters and disseminate ideas and information to other professionals.
* Respond to parent/staff's concerns in a professional and timely manner.
* Provide professional development/on-site training as needs arise.
* Provide district-wide training and professional development for teachers and paraprofessionals on specific topics related to student IEP implementation.
* Provide leadership for staff to maintain focus upon students' needs related to IEP implementation.
* Promote and model collaboration between special education staff and general education staff.
* Delegate duties, responsibilities, and activities in a collaborative and supportive manner.
* Assist administration by hiring special education staff.
* Participate in professional growth activities on a yearly basis including workshops, in-services, and/or other available trainings for the purpose of increasing professional knowledge.
* Assume responsibility for professional growth and development by keeping current with professional reading materials and new research findings; and for attending appropriate professional meetings and conferences.
* Observe professional ethical standards in accordance with generally accepted community standards and the Texas Education Agency Code of Ethics.
* Attendance at work is an essential function.
* Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor and/or Special Education Director.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum Experience:
* 3 years of teaching experience
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum
Education/Certification:
* Bachelor's degree required
* Master's degree or 5 years of experience in Special Education including a minimum of 3 years of experience in an administrative capacity
* Valid Texas teacher certificate or teaching certificate from out of state in Special Education
* Valid Texas Driver's License
* Eligible for coverage under the District's vehicle insurance program
