JOB DESCRIPTION:

Primary

Purpose:

To facilitate the teaching and learning process within a positive learning environment (in-person, distance and/or virtual) so that students acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for them to become responsible, contributing adults in a democratic society. The Mariachi Teacher will instruct the guitar classes as well as plan and implement an instructional program for the campus beginner, intermediate, and advanced mariachi ensembles.

Responsible for coordinating, supervising, and managing all aspects of the campus guitar classes and mariachi program.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Instructional Management

* Plan a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of students.

* Enhance the academic growth of students through the use of effective teaching practices as utilized in the instructional model.

* Guide the learning process towards the achievement of curriculum goals by establishing clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects.

* Employ the instructional methods and resources that are most appropriate for meeting state objectives.

* Meet and instruct assigned classes in the location and at the time designated.

* Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.

* Diagnose the learning disabilities of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of district specialists as required.

* Teach guitar classes and provide solid foundational technical skills for guitar, vihuela, and guitarron.

* Develop, implement, monitor, and maintain progress with group and individual instruction, rehearsals, and performances for guitar classes and the high school mariachi ensembles.

* Plan appropriate learning activities including determination of appropriate type and level of materials and implement an instructional program that provides an appropriate learning sequence, considering different learning styles and a range of abilities.

Program Management

* Implement sectional, small group, and large ensemble instruction in the fall and spring semester to provide adequate preparation for all concerts, competitions, auditions, and events.

* Develop, implement, and monitor a public relations program that will keep the public aware of the accomplishments and events involving students in the instructional program.

* Develop, implement, and monitor a recruitment, audition, and placement program/schedule for all potential students.

* Comply with established Lamar CISD policies and procedures regarding fundraising, budget management, inventory and materials management, student travel, employee travel, private lessons, and the submission of entry forms and fees by prescribed deadlines.

* Understand and uphold all rules, regulations, and dates that pertain to the instrumental music program (UIL, TMEA, Lamar CISD policies, etc.).

* Participate in all UIL, TMEA, and District sponsored events; encourage student participation in all competitions/events related to the instructional program.

* Provide proper student supervision during and after all program activities until all students have left the area.

* Participate in in-service, professional learning activities, and staff meetings as required or assigned, including meetings with the Director of Performing & Visual Arts.

School/Organizational Improvement

* Attend staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.

* Counsel with colleagues, students and/or parents regarding student achievement and the instructional program.

* Accept a share of responsibility for co-curricular activities as assigned.

School/Organizational Climate

* Create an in-person and/or virtual classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.

* Strive to implement the District's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.

* Cooperate with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives and methods.

* Maintain order in the in-person and/or virtual classroom in a fair and just manner through reasonable rules and regulations.

* Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and/or volunteer(s), and cooperatively with department heads and/or grade level leaders, evaluate their job performance.

Administrative and Fiscal/Facilities Management

* Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.

* Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations.

* Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations and Board Policy.

* Assist in the selection of books, equipment and other instructional materials.
