Job Description Summary

The HART (Heating, Air Conditioning, Refrigeration and Technology) Department Faculty at Austin Community College supports hands-on and classroom learning for a multicultural group of students within the high school and community college settings. Faculty will prepare engaging coursework and deliver content across ACC campuses and other duties as assigned. Position starts August 2026.

Job Description

The ACC HART program is designed to meet the needs of the industrial, commercial, and residential HVAC industry. Emphasis is placed on real-world approaches to diagnostic skill-building and thorough understanding of refrigeration system theory and operations. Independent, self-directed learning is promoted through hands-on experience with current systems and the use of computer programs and simulations. Students completing degree and/or certificate programs will leave ACC with workplace skills and professionalism necessary to succeed in the workforce.

Principal

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Prepare and teach courses in HVAC & Refrigeration to a multicultural student population based on the department's approved course learning outcomes, using a variety of instructional strategies.
  • Participate in departmental responsibilities and governance, including curriculum review and revision, program review, assessment of student learning outcomes, and other departmental activities.
  • Evaluate student progress and provide clear, timely feedback reflecting program outcomes and departmental expectations.
  • Serve as a mentor to students in the HVAC & Refrigeration program.
  • Provide teaching and mentoring without discrimination based on protected characteristics.
  • Remain current in the field through professional development activities.
  • Support division and department goals through active engagement in decision-making and planning.
  • Serve on college wide and departmental committees, councils, work groups, and task forces.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by the department chair, dean, and/or vice chancellor.
Additional Duties

Applicants will also work with dual credit students at the high school level.

Technology
  • Demonstrated proficiency using computer applications, online resources, and other technologies for the classroom.
  • Demonstrated proficiency using an online learning management system such as Blackboard to develop and build course content and perform administrative duties (posting office hours, syllabi, etc.).
Principal Professional Standards
  • Appropriate use of the college's learning management system.
  • Meet deadlines for attendance certification and submission of final course grades.
  • Participate in graduation, general assembly, and other official college functions.
  • Maintain regular office hours to assist students and improve retention and success.
