Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent. Some college preferred
  • 3 years of school bus transportation safety training experience preferred or other relevant experience
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Exceptional group presentation skills
  • Well-developed time management skills
  • Positive attitude and desire to work as a team player
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office Software (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc) and transportation related software
  • Ability to provide direction, coaching and mentoring to employees while creating an environment that encourages and values employee input and feedback
  • Valid driver's license, with the ability to obtain a Minnesota CDL license with school bus and passenger endorsement
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws and rules related to school bus drivers
  • Demonstrated experience and proficiency working with a culturally, ethnically, racially and socioeconomically diverse school community is preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Responsible for all aspects of safety compliance for drivers
  • Provides behind the wheel and classroom instruction to district bus drivers and prospective bus drivers
  • Lead, design and implement initial and recurrent training programs for drivers, chaperones and crossing guards
  • Provides work direction to the district school bus driver trainers
  • Conducts a safety assembly for students in each elementary school. Trains and installs fifth grade school patrol members each fall.
  • Provides ongoing safety program for transportation employees, including the use of video, posters, workshops and individual employee conferences
  • Works with contractors in all aspects of their safety programs
  • Coordinates with school administration annual student safety assembly for each elementary school
  • Teaches state required course for beginning drivers which includes instruction in certification, vehicle components, first aid, emergency procedures, driving fundamentals, defensive driving, discipline of student passenger, and community relations.
  • Investigates current and potential bus stop locations and makes recommendations based on safety and logistical considerations. Responds to parent requests regarding safety at bus stops
  • Takes proactive approach to school parking lot safety issues and collaborates with a diverse group of school administrators and drivers to effectively resolve school parking lot issues
  • Conducts accident investigations including interviewing parties involved, damage assessment, findings reports, observations and conclusions
  • Drives school bus routes when necessary
  • Accepts other responsibilities as assigned by Coordinator of Transportation

$69,003 - 74,641 (2025-26) depending on qualifications
