Position: Post-Master’s Fellowship (Pre-Licensed Therapist)

Overview

Description Applications are open for Lorenz Clinic’s 2026 Post-Master’s Fellowship, a nationally recognized, rigorous, full-time, paid psychotherapy training position for pre-licensed clinicians seeking LICSW, LMFT, or LPCC licensure in Minnesota. Each year, a small cohort of fellows—selected from over a thousand applicants nationwide—joins us to train in relational, systemic, and developmentally informed psychotherapy, the kind of depth work that prioritizes enduring change over symptom management.

Roughly half of our fellows relocate from across the country to participate, while the rest come from leading graduate programs in the region.

About Lorenz Clinic Lorenz Clinic pioneered post-master’s fellowships in Minnesota, and it’s a model that’s now been replicated across the field. The program provides a training placement—not just work experience—for professional counselors, marriage & family therapists, and clinical social workers to focus on learning and licensure while earning a salary.

Note Training outcomes are aspirational and not guaranteed, as they depend on factors including trainee preparation, learning goals, personality, commitment to learning, openness, and flexibility.

What You’ll Learn

Lorenz Clinic’s interprofessional training program develops effective interventionists with a deep professional network and the ability to work independently and in interdisciplinary teams. The fellowship provides client hours needed for licensure with a focus on professional development rather than just billable hours. Training tracks may be blended across programs based on learning goals and supervisor competence.

The clinic sees a spectrum of mental health issues across diverse client populations and maintains strong referral relationships.

The fellowship is full-time, salaried, W2, benefits-eligible, in-person.

  • Declared mental health licensure track such as LICSW, LMFT, or LPCC in Minnesota and comply with licensure requirements; if on the social work track, must have LGSW before start date
  • Completed master’s-level clinical practicum with diagnosis, treatment planning, and outpatient psychotherapy; total practicum length should sum to at least 9–12 months; remote/telehealth placements are not considered
Benefits
  • Full-time benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life, disability insurance
  • 401k with matching; paid time off; paid holidays; paid service/volunteer time
  • Employee assistance program; flexible schedule; hybrid options; professional development assistance
  • Student loan repayment; burnout time

The main benefits of the fellowship relate to learning, including licensure supervision, interdisciplinary training cohorts, and dedicated supervision and didactic time.

As an active training clinic, Lorenz offers ongoing continuing education, annual conference, and regular grand rounds. Alumni have gone on to leadership roles, open their own clinics, or join staff after completing the fellowship.

Compensation

The hiring range is $51,000 - $90,000 per year, based on qualifications, caseload, program fit, and track chosen. This is a W2, salaried role with predictable pay. Pay-for-performance models are available at the candidate’s discretion. Fellowship alumni are often invited to join staff after completion.
