Position Overview
We’re seeking a highly skilled Davenport Screw Machine Set‑Up Operator to join our precision machining team. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment, has deep hands‑on experience with multi‑spindle screw machines, and takes pride in producing high‑quality, repeatable parts. You’ll be responsible for setting up, troubleshooting, and optimizing Davenport machines to meet production goals and maintain exceptional quality standards.
Key Responsibilities- Set up and operate Davenport multi‑spindle screw machines according to job specifications, blueprints, and process sheets.
- Select, install, and adjust tooling, cams, gears, collets, and attachments required for each job.
- Perform machine changeovers efficiently to minimize downtime.
- Diagnose and correct machining issues such as tool wear, dimensional deviations, chip control, and surface finish problems.
- Monitor production runs to ensure consistent part quality and adherence to tolerances.
- Conduct first‑piece inspections and periodic in‑process checks using micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other precision measuring tools.
- Collaborate with engineering, quality, and maintenance teams to improve processes and resolve technical challenges.
- Maintain clean, organized work areas and follow all safety protocols.
- Train or mentor junior operators as needed.
- 3–5+ years of hands‑on experience setting up and operating Davenport screw machines (Model B, Model D, or equivalent).
- Strong understanding of multi‑spindle machine operation, tooling, feeds/speeds, and cam design.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, GD&T, and job travelers.
- Proficiency with precision measuring instruments and inspection techniques.
- Mechanical aptitude with strong troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
- Experience with high‑volume production environments.
- Familiarity with SPC, lean manufacturing, or process optimization.
- Basic understanding of machine maintenance and lubrication systems.
- Ability to design or modify cams is a plus.
- Standing for extended periods, lifting up to 40 lbs, and working around moving machinery.
- Exposure to oils, coolants, and typical shop conditions.
- Use of PPE as required.
