Job Description

Transportation Maintenance Coordinator – Highway Maintenance Coordinator, Oregon Department of Transportation, Delivery & Operations Division – Region 3, Traffic Marking and Sign Crew, Roseburg

The Role (Expanded)

As a highway maintenance coordinator, you will respond to emergencies and patrol the area looking for potential hazards and damages. You will ensure maintenance activities are planned, prioritized, performed and completed in an efficient and safe manner. You will also work closely with the maintenance manager to make sure crews have what they need to be successful and provide feedback on performance.

In addition to working alongside the maintenance crew in the field, you’ll also work in the office to ensure invoices are paid, order supplies and ensure equipment maintenance is performed. Help us in our mission to keep Oregon’s roads safe!

A Day In The Life
  • Plan, prioritize, schedule and assign work including scheduling night and weekend shifts.
  • Ensure crews have the resources needed to complete their work including the right quantities of materials and equipment for projects.
  • Review and approve time records, overtime, vacation, sick time and other leave requests.
  • Help with the hiring and selection process and provide recommendations to management.
  • Train employees on operating a variety of heavy and light equipment safely.
  • Review the work of crews and provide input to the maintenance manager on employee performance.
  • Assist the maintenance manager with short and long-range planning and budget preparation.
  • Patrol highways and structures looking for crashes, hazards and damages, and respond to emergencies.
  • Exposure to noise, extreme heights, all weather conditions, heavy equipment, pesticides and hazardous waste materials is expected.
  • Must be able to move around rough terrain, bend and stoop for extended periods and may need to lift up to 75 pounds.
  • May need to work long hours and be available after hours, on weekends and holidays for emergency, on call and weather related purposes.

Minimum Qualifications

Three years of maintenance or construction experience in roadway, highway, bridge, sign, drawbridge, or landscape.
