Entry Level Production Associate – Mentor Trainee (Swing)
Location: Roseburg, OR
Department: General Plant
Reports to: Department Supervisor
Hours per shift: 10‑hour shifts with three 10‑minute breaks and a 30‑minute unpaid lunch break. (Schedule varies by journeyman type.)

Position
Purpose:
The Mentor Trainee provides training in entry‑level positions so that when open spots in production become available, we have trained and competent operators ready to perform these job duties. Mentors are assigned a shift and a department and then learn jobs in that department as needed, with occasional cross‑training opportunities.
The essential functions vary depending on the specific position a mentor is placed in. Typical tasks include:
- Sticker Operator
- Bander/End‑wax
- Paperwrap
- Stacker II
- Sawmill Sorter Help
- Dispatch
Mentors may rotate to different positions for cross‑training or to facilitate production. Job duties for other positions are outlined in their individual job descriptions.
Assist co‑workers or maintenance personnel in basic maintenance procedures.
Other duties as assigned.
Non‑Essential FunctionsPerform other duties and functions as assigned by supervisor for production and cleaning purposes.
Working EnvironmentInside 90%, average temperature 80 °F, extremes 10 °F–120 °F. Noise/vibration from machinery and forklifts. Dust limited, mist water, odors dry wood, no gases. The worker stands on a slightly elevated wooden platform with rubber mats, moving in front of an elevated dry conveyor (3 ½–4 ft high). Reasonable accommodations can be made for disabilities.

- High‑visibility clothing
The position requires constant use of hearing and vision, frequent bending, twisting, pushing/pulling, reaching, and occasional lifting or carrying of weights up to 50 lb (lifting over 50 lb performed with assistance or lifting devices).
Skills- Excellent hand‑eye coordination
- Ability to see forklifts and coworkers while using vision and hearing continuously
- Reading and speaking ability for safety and machine procedures
- Self‑directed, able to prioritize and complete tasks efficiently
Maximum weight lifted without assistance: 50 lb; carried without assistance: 10–50 lb.
