Job Description

What you will be doing: HIM Senior Specialist

  • Provide HIM support in maintaining the Department’s paper and electronic health record system.
  • Understand privacy and security guidelines related to patient information and maintain HIPAA compliance.
  • Keep all patient information confidential.
  • Learn and navigate efficiently within an electronic health record.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, in the English language.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment and develop sound professional working relationships.
  • Perform advanced functions within the Health Information Management Department.
  • Manage Document Imaging, including prepping, scanning, quality review/validation, and indexing.
  • Analyze medical records for completion and assign provider deficiencies as needed.
  • Support missing documentation and provider queries as needed.
  • Complete birth and/or death certificates in accordance with state law.
  • Perform chart pick-up (rounding) and reconciliation.
  • Execute data integrity duties as assigned (chart correction, duplicate medical records, etc.).
  • Meet productivity expectations based on job function.
  • Maintain productivity metrics and monitor time for productivity.
  • Assist internal and outside agencies with patient record information.
  • Answer phones, process continuity of care requests, record retrieval, and record filing as assigned.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
Experience you will need
  • Minimum:
    High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years’ experience in a hospital Health Information Management Department.
  • Preferred: RHIT or RHIA Certification.
