Location: Romulus, MI (Hybrid-On site 3-4 days/week)
The Role of the Mechanical EngineerThis exciting Product Development position delivers interesting and challenging solutions with our varying customers. At RLE, the Mechanical Engineer is involved in many diverse problems to solve across the vehicle including sheet metal, Body in White, and structures. The Mechanical Engineer is involved and responsible from conception through launch.
Responsibilities:- Work with Design Studio, Vehicle Engineering, and Tier-1 Suppliers to develop automotive BIW concepts to support vehicle functional objectives and design themes. Understand the implications to meeting global regulatory requirements
- Work with the customer to mature solution concepts into feasible solutions that deliver world-class performance, while meeting program cost, investment, and timing objectives
- Maintain Timing Plan, Open Issues List, Bill of Materials, DVP&R and DFMEA control plan for BIW
- Support and interface with manufacturing team for vehicle development and production
- Estimate, create and control cost/mass targets for component parts
- Ensure that vehicle and component development design milestones and MRDs are met
- Detail Design including GD&T
- Create and present technical reports to communicate project status and results to cross functional teams and management
- Minimum of 5+ years BIW engineering experience in OEM or Tier-1 Supplier
- Knowledge of global regulations for automotive BIW is a plus
- Experience with DFM/DFA methodologies
- Knowledge of testing and certification requirements for automotive BIW components
- Experience with writing and executing a DVP&R
- Experience working with manufacturing to support production needs
- BS degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Experience with production launch of new vehicle program
- Experience in troubleshooting concept and prototype vehicles
- Experience with Electric Vehicles (preferred)
- Minimum of 5+ years of CATIA V5 and Teamcenter experience
