Qualifications
  • Experience with high school track & field programming.
  • Must be available to perform coaching responsibilities, games and practices outside of your contractual day. (Daily contractual hours will not be modified to accommodate coaching schedule.)
  • Track & Field coaching experience preferred.
  • Track & Field knowledge and playing experience.
  • Understanding of Michigan High School Athletic Association rules and regulations.
  • Ability to communicate and work well with high school students.
  • Ability to communicate and work well with parents, booster club and the community.
  • Michigan Certified Teacher, preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Counsel students/athletes about scholarships and the importance of grades.
  • Expose students/athletes to surrounding colleges.
  • Monitor grades of students/athletes in the Track & Field program.
  • Maintain academic eligibility log for student athlete participation.
  • Assist with the implementation of academic intervention strategies for student athletes to maintain academic performance and eligibility standards.
  • Adhere to academic eligibility for student athlete participation in games, conferences and tournaments.
  • Meet with parents of team members prior to the start of season.
  • Build strong relationships with parents and the school community to develop a culture for academic accomplishment aligned with athletic achievement.
  • Responsible for the preparation and submittal of a yearly budget and bids to order necessary equipment.
  • Assist track team making decisions, planning events and implementing plans.
  • Coordinate with the Track Coaching Staff, a practice schedule and adhere to the practice schedule for the entire season.
  • Teach and coach student athletes in the techniques and skills needed to ensure a successful track program.
  • Be a positive role model and motivator.
  • Encourage student athletes to be student role models in the building; assist building in establishing Positive Behavior and Intervention Support programming.
  • Attend all meetings as required by the MHSAA and WWAC League.
  • Excellent time management, communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to interact positively with students, staff and parents.
  • Skilled in collaborating with other professionals.
  • Comply with district policies and procedures (i.e., academic eligibility of student athletes, accident reporting, cash handling, travel and transportation requests, parent/assistant/volunteer approval and authorization procedures, etc.).
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Other duties, within the athletic department, as they relate to the sport.

Physical Demands
  • The employee must occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach and twist while performing their job duties.
    • The employee must be able to lift and move up to 25 pounds in supplies which requires bending, stooping, lifting, and reaching.
    • The employee may have to push and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight.
    • The employee must be able to use and operate a variety of office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including the use of a computer keyboard.
    • The employee must use hands and arms to manipulate objects.
    • The employee will have extensive verbal communication with administrators, staff, students, parents, & guests to communicate, to receive, and exchange information.
    • The employee must use keyboards, tools, and other controls.
    • The employee must sit and stand for prolonged periods of time.
    • The employee must have normal vision and hearing with or without aid.
    • The employee must be able to move about the assigned work location during the day.
Work Environment
  • The noise level in the work environment will vary and can range from soft to loud. Often the noise level will be soft to moderate.
  • The employee is required to interact with students, staff, parents/guardians and occasionally with the public.
  • At times, the employee may be directly responsible for the safety and well-being of students.
