Overview
Barking Havering & Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking a Consultant Gastroenterology with a specialist interest in Hepatology to join our expanding team across Queen’s and King George Hospitals. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a forward-thinking and diverse department committed to delivering high-quality hepatology and gastroenterology care across our local population.
The post holder will be expected to provide both inpatient and outpatient services, alongside supporting the emergency GI bleed rota. The role includes active participation in the development of hepatology services within the Trust—shaping benign hepatology pathways, developing community outreach services, and collaborating in multi-disciplinary team meetings with regional liver networks.
You will join the Digestive Diseases Centre (DDC), a combined service formed through the integration of Gastroenterology, Endoscopy, and Upper & Lower GI Surgery, working closely with our surgical colleagues to develop a Centre of Excellence for digestive health in North East London.
Responsibilities- Provide inpatient and outpatient gastroenterology services with a specialist interest in hepatology.
- Support the emergency GI bleed rota.
- Contribute to the development of hepatology services within the Trust, shaping benign hepatology pathways and developing community outreach services.
- Collaborate in multi-disciplinary team meetings with regional liver networks.
- Join the Digestive Diseases Centre (DDC) and work with surgical colleagues to develop a Centre of Excellence for digestive health in North East London.
- Participate in a range of procedures including Diagnostic and therapeutic OGD and Colonoscopy, EMR, Colonic stenting, ERCP, EUS (radial and linear), Capsule Endoscopy, Oesophageal pH and manometry studies; contribute to developing JAG training courses at the Trust.
- Engage with a busy, dynamic multidisciplinary team focused on improving services for the population.
BHRUT, one of the busiest NHS trusts in Greater London, performs over 18,000 GI endoscopy procedures per year in JAG-accredited units. We are the referral centre for TEMS procedures for NE London and attract tertiary referrals for complex polyps with the aid of advanced EMR, ESD, and hybrid procedures.
