Description - Call for Expression of Interest for a joint application under the upcoming Call for MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships 2026
University of Genoa, UNIGE, located in Genoa, ITALY, welcomes postdoctoral researchers of any nationality, with an excellent track record, to apply to the European Commission Marie Skłodowska-Curie (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellowships 2026. Our University has been beneficiary of several MSCA-PF in Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe.
The Marie Skłodowska-Curie (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellowship is one of funding schemes of the European Commission’s Horizon Europe Research & Innovation programme, dedicated to excellent research promoting international mobility, as well as interdisciplinary and intersect oral exchanges.
MSCA fellowship grant provides a competitive salary plus mobility and family allowances if applicable, as well as a contribution to cover research, training and networking costs. The research projects will have 2- or 3-years duration.
Selected candidates will be provided with special support for proposal writing and development.
The University of Genoa will organize in May the fifth edition of the Masterclass MSCAectedcandidate researchers will have the opportunity to attend a 2-days online intensive training and coaching course on how to write a successful proposal. This masterclass is a pathway of support to candidates and their supervisors in preparing project proposal, including prescreening activity of the draft proposals and the organisation of dedicated B2B meetings, by the European Research Office of Uni Ge, National Contact Point and other experts.
The masterclass will take place on May 2026.
Noncommutative Geometry (NCG) extends classical Riemannian geometry beyond smooth manifolds by replacing spaces with suitable algebras of coordinates. Within this framework, fundamental geometric notions such as metric structures, symmetries, and dynamics admit operator-algebraic and spectral formulations, making NCG a powerful conceptual framework for encoding the intrinsic noncommutativity of quantum theories. Over the past decades, NCG has developed into a central domain at the interface of geometry, operator algebras, and mathematical physics, with deep connections to index theory, gauge theory, and quantum field theory.
Current research directions include structural advances in spectral and operator-algebraic methods, notably in KK-theory and related bivariant frameworks, together with developments motivated by foundational questions in mathematical physics, including entropy and gauge theory.
We seek candidates aiming to contribute at the research frontier of NCG, either through analytic and geometric investigations (e.g. spectral triples, operator-algebraic structures, deformation approaches) or through foundational interactions with mathematical physics. In particular, projects pursuing conceptual links between NCG and other approaches to quantization, including Algebraic Quantum Field Theory (AQFT), are especially encouraged. Applicants are expected to propose an ambitious and independent research programme within this broad thematic landscape.
Research Group
The fellow will be hosted by the Department of Mathematics at the University of Genoa, within the Mathematical Physics research group. The group operates at the forefront of mathematical physics, with recognized expertise in Algebraic Quantum Field Theory (AQFT) and applications of Noncommutative Geometry to physics.
The department offers a dynamic and intellectually stimulating environment for postdoctoral research. Regular research seminars, thematic workshops, and a strong culture of scientific exchange provide a forum for discussing current developments and for fostering collaborations with both local and international researchers.
The fellow will be fully integrated into the group’s activities, while being encouraged to develop an independent research programme at the interface of mathematical physics and noncommutative geometry. The environment combines focused mentorship from leading figures in the field with the freedom to establish high-level visibility in the international research community.
Application
An expression of interest shall be sent to prof.ssa Roberta Anna Iseppi (roberta.anna.iseppi) within 15th April 2026.
Your file should contain the following elements:
For MSCA-PF 26 call (opening foreseen on 10th April 2026), at the deadline for the submission of proposals (9th September 2026) postdoctoral candidates shall have a maximum of 8 years of postdoctoral research experience and must not have resided or carried out their main activities in Italy (for European Fellowship) or in the Third Country of the outgoing phase (for Global Fellowship) for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the above mentioned deadline.
