Schedule Details/Additional Information:
Inpatient lactation rounding and outpatient clinic rotation. Hours vary with weekend and holiday rotation.
$34.90 - $52.35
Major Responsibilities- Provides patient education and support for breastfeeding mothers on the postpartum unit and those with infants in the NICU.
- Makes daily rounds, Monday through Friday, and is available electronically on weekends and after hours.
- Focuses on assisting first-time breastfeeding mothers and those with special needs.
- Works collaboratively with the nursing staff, MO s, Case Manager, Childbirth Educator, Clinical Managers, and other ancillary staff to assure continuity of information provided to patients.
- Continuing Education
- Completes unit and departmental annual skills checklists
- Valid, active unencumbered Nursing license approved by the Georgia Licensing Board for GA locations and Alabama Licensing Board for AL locations
- Current Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) Certification
- Associate’s Degree in Nursing
- At least two years working as clinical nurse
- At least two years working with lactation consulting
- Meets requirements for RN job description

Physical Requirements and Working ConditionsFrequent sitting and/or standing, often for long periods of time. Frequent walking, bending, stooping, pushing, twisting and turning. Occasionally lifts 10 pounds or more of office related equipment or supplies. Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity in reaching, grasping and handling with repetitive use of hands and fingers in operating computer, calculator, telephone, copier and similar office equipment. Ability to distinguish letters, numbers and symbols with normal range of vision and hearing and ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
Work-related stress due to volume and time constraints. May require travel by vehicle to alternative locations.

The Lactation Consultant serves as a resource person for patients and health care providers. He/she assists in patient and staff education and support in all aspects of lactation management in accordance with established guidelines.
