Job description Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Wastewater Operator to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the effective operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment facilities ensuring that pumps, and all equipment and other wastewater treatment equipment function properly. This role involves monitoring equipment for potential failures, making adjustments and ordering repairs as needed, conducting data collection, and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.

The Wastewater Operator will play a crucial role in maintaining the integrity of our wastewater systems while contributing to the overall health and safety of the community.

Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain wastewater treatment equipment, ensuring optimal performance.
  • Conduct regular inspections and perform equipment repair as necessary.
  • Collect and analyze data related to wastewater processes to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Assist with the installation and inspection of new wastewater services.
  • Perform heavy lifting tasks associated with the maintenance and repair of the physical plant and pump stations and all their components and operation of facilities.
  • Plumb and build necessary components for effective wastewater treatment operations.
  • Utilize basic math skills for calculations related to chemical dosing, flow rates, and other operational metrics.
  • Maintain accurate records of operations, maintenance activities, and compliance data.
  • Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot issues and implement solutions effectively.
  • On call to respond to emergencies and breakdowns at the plant and wastewater stations.
  • Conduct the necessary weekend checks of the treatment plant if needed.
  • Maintain open communications regarding the treatment process, operation, malfunctions, as well as make recommendations for repairs and improvements to these systems.
  • Perform all work in conformance to Occupational Safety and Health Act regulations.
Qualifications
  • Experience in wastewater treatment operations is preferred.
  • Familiarity with tanker operations is a plus.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude for equipment repair and maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to collect data accurately and analyze results for operational improvements.
  • Physical capability to perform heavy lifting as required by the job duties.
  • Proficient in basic math skills for operational calculations.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail are essential.
  • Willingness to work in various environmental conditions typical of wastewater facilities.
Skills
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Work-related experience is preferred.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to wear appropriate safety gear and PPE.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders without balance loss.
  • Ability to work on high platforms.
  • Ability to perform and document various tests required by State and Federal agencies for the operation of a wastewater treatment plant.
  • Working knowledge of the operation, methods and procedures of a wastewater treatment plant.
  • Working knowledge of the machinery used for wastewater treatment and pumping stations.
  • Working knowledge of basic machinery preventive maintenance and repair.
  • Basic knowledge of State and Federal rules governing wastewater discharges and worker’s safety.
  • Able to work with independence and to make routine decisions on the operation of the plant processes and equipment during the Operation Leads absence.
Work Environment

Work is typically performed in an inside, temperature-controlled environment. Works and travels throughout plant environment of varied temperatures and humidity, and wears personal protective equipment, as required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Various operations in the plant generate noise, dust, vapor and fumes in the normal course of production.
