Overview
The PRN Chaplain provides a ministry of pastoral care and spiritual support and counseling to patients, families and teammates in assigned areas within hospital, hospice or community.
Major Responsibilities- Provides direct spiritual and emotional support to patients and families who desire this service.
- Serves as liaison between the interdisciplinary team and the patient's spiritual caregiver when appropriate
- Maintains proper and current records of contacts with patients and families and clergy members as related to spiritual care.
- Conducts or helps to make arrangements for funeral or memorial services as needed.
- Maintains regular communication with Interdisciplinary Team members as needed to coordinate optimal care and use of resources for patients and families.
- Seeks and utilizes input from other teammates regarding patient plan of care and support.
- Attends patient care conferences as needed and participates by exploring and assessing potential spiritual needs of patients and families and reporting on services as appropriate.
- Serves as a resource and provides information to other teammates as needed to enhance sensitivity to the spiritual concerns of patients and families experiencing terminal illness and loss.
- Offers support to teammates to help them in dealing with their own grief, spiritual issues and difficulties in dealing with losses.
- Conduct spiritual assessments, interventions, and data collection on Palliative Care patients and families for spiritual and emotional support as needed
- Participates in performance improvement activities as assigned.
- Provides age-appropriate care, as evidenced by performance with applicable standards. (Refer to annual age-specific competency checklist)
- Demonstrates familiarity with policies of the program and rules and regulations of State, Federal and Private agencies which aid in determining policies.
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Indirect exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids and tissue, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medical preparations and other conditions common to a clinical environment. Prolonged sitting and/or standing. Frequent walking bending, stooping, pushing, twisting and turning. Occasionally lifts 10 pounds or more of office related equipment or supplies. Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity in reaching, grasping and handling with repetitive use of hands and fingers in operating computer, calculator, telephone, copier and similar office equipment.
Ability to distinguish letters, numbers and symbols with normal range of vision and hearing and ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Work-related stress due to volume and time constraints. May require travel by vehicle to alternative locations.
Job Requirements
Education
2 Units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) OR Experience-based equivalency determined to be satisfactory by Department Director
Certification/License
Pastoral License or Ordination within a recognized faith tradition OR Experience-based or professional equivalency as determined to be satisfactory by Department Director
Work Experience
Six months pastoral ministry in church or institution
PreferredJob Requirements
Education
Master of Divinity, Theology or equivalent. 4 Units of ACPE Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE).
Certification/License
Board Certified Chaplain eligible by the Association of Professional Chaplains. Denominational Endorsement.
Pay Range$26.10 - $39.15
