The High School Principal serves as the instructional and organizational leader responsible for advancing a culture of excellence in academics, athletics, and the arts while ensuring high levels of student achievement and positive school climate outcomes.
The Principal is expected to be a visionary, high-capacity leader who builds systems that promote rigorous instruction, strong relationships, operational effectiveness, and a unified school culture centered on student success.
This position requires a proven leader with demonstrated success in improving academic outcomes, cultivating high-performing staff, strengthening school culture, and leading comprehensive high school programs that prepare students for college, career, and life.
CORE LEADERSHIP EXPECTATIONSThe High School Principal will lead the school in alignment with the district’s Four Pillars:
1. Student Achievement- Establish and sustain a culture of high academic expectations for all students.
- Lead implementation of rigorous, standards-based instruction across all academic programs.
- Utilize multiple data sources to drive instructional improvement and close achievement gaps.
- Ensure alignment of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and intervention systems.
- Promote excellence across Advanced Placement, Career Pathways, Fine Arts, and Athletics programs.
- Support innovative instructional practices that prepare students for postsecondary success.
- Recruit, develop, supervise, and retain highly effective teachers and leaders.
- Build leadership capacity through coaching, mentorship, and distributed leadership models.
- Implement meaningful professional learning aligned to student performance needs.
- Conduct frequent, high-quality evaluations focused on instructional growth.
- Foster a collaborative professional culture grounded in accountability and support.
- Promote staff morale, engagement, and professional excellence.
- Develop and sustain a positive, inclusive, and student-centered school culture.
- Serve as the primary ambassador between the school, families, and community.
- Build strong partnerships with parents, business leaders, higher education institutions, and community organizations.
- Promote student engagement through academics, athletics, arts, and extracurricular opportunities.
- Maintain transparent, consistent communication with stakeholders.
- Create systems that ensure every student feels connected, valued, and supported.
- Maintain a safe, orderly, and secure learning environment.
- Ensure compliance with district, state, and federal policies and regulations.
- Effectively manage school budgets, staffing allocations, and resources.
- Oversee facilities, transportation coordination, technology integration, and daily operations.
- Lead crisis preparedness planning and emergency response protocols.
- Promote professionalism, accountability, and operational efficiency across all functions.
- Provide strategic leadership aligned with district vision and Board of Education policies.
- Supervise and evaluate certified and classified personnel.
- Lead continuous school improvement planning and implementation.
- Oversee all instructional programs, extracurricular activities, athletics, and fine arts.
- Analyze student achievement data to guide improvement strategies.
- Establish high standards for student behavior and attendance.
- Collaborate with district departments, including transportation, nutrition, maintenance, technology, and student services.
- Manage school finances and ensure responsible stewardship of resources.
- Maintain effective communication with the Superintendent regarding school performance and needs.
- Promote innovation and continuous improvement in teaching and learning.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
- Mandatory: a Specialist Degree or higher in Educational Leadership, Administration, or a related field.
- A doctoral degree is highly recommended
- Valid Georgia Leadership Certification (Building Level or equivalent).
- A minimum of three (3) years of successful experience as a Principal is highly recommended.
- Demonstrated success in improving student achievement outcomes.
- Proven leadership experience overseeing comprehensive high school programs, including academics, athletics, and fine arts.
- Experience in building strong school culture and improving staff performance.
- Evidence of effective stakeholder and community engagement.
