Job SummaryThe Dean of Students (DOS) provides management and leadership for student engagement, support services, conduct, and safety. The DOS serves as primary point of contact for student welfare, crisis response, and conflict resolution. This role leads collaborative efforts to advance the college's strategic plan with a focus on strengthening student engagement and success, retention, and completion while supporting teaching and learning.
Responsibilities- Understand, support, and embody the college's mission, vision, and values while complying with mandates and regulations of government and accrediting bodies
- Develop, design, and oversee student-focused programming and support services to enhance student success and well-being
- Partner with academic leadership to advance student success strategies with emphasis on student engagement and services
- Oversee and manage student code of conduct, academic integrity, and Title IX policies, processes, and case management, as appropriate
- Advance initiatives that strengthen enrollment, engagement, and pathways to completion
- Assess student outcomes and utilize data to develop strategies for improving student satisfaction, self-efficacy, credit momentum, retention, and completion
- Participate in the recruitment, evaluation, and development of staff and administrators within the division
- Oversee professional development and performance management within the division
- Recommend and help implement institution-wide policies, practices, and procedures
- Direct departmental budget administration and management
- Foster cross-functional collaboration across the college to support student-focused initiatives
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Master's degree or higher in a related field
- Prior experience in student affairs - four (4) or more years of relevant experience in higher education and progressive leadership experience in student affairs or related functional areas (student engagement, support services, student conduct, etc.)
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license for the type of vehicle or equipment operated

- Possess strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills, essential for effective interaction with students, community members, faculty, and staff
- Knowledge of student affairs standards, operations, and requirements including student code of conduct and Title IX
- Knowledge of higher education guidelines and practices and accreditation and compliance standards
- Knowledge of benchmark practices in student affairs/services.
- Knowledge of University System of Georgia Board of Regents policies, procedures, practices, requirements, and reporting structures
- Ability to work effectively with stakeholders and foster a supportive academic environment, promoting collaboration and enhancing student affairs and student retention
- Ability to direct the work of multiple diverse units of the institution
- Ability to develop and mentor staff as well as managers
- Ability to communicate effectively and frequently
- Ability to drive strategic direction
- Skill in oral and written communication
- Skill in conceptual thinking, applying judgement, and decision making
- Skill in planning and organizational development. Excellent administrative, oral and written communication, and interpersonal skills
- Skill in Microsoft Office Suite applications, databases, course management systems, learning management systems, and technological enhancements
