Georgia Highlands College is a multi‑campus, state college member of the University System of Georgia. Founded in 1970 as Floyd Junior College, it now serves more than 6,000 students in Northwest Georgia and Northeast Alabama across its five locations in Rome, Cartersville, Marietta, and Dallas. GHC currently offers over 30 areas of study with associate degree and bachelor’s degree options both in the classroom and online.
Job SummaryThis position provides support for various functions within the library and archives at the Cartersville Campus. The Assistant must be a current GHC Student.
Responsibilities- Provide customer service to library and archives users in person and by phone.
- Utilize the library management system (LMS) to process borrowing and returning of library materials.
- Offer basic reference duties, such as answering questions on basic searching, technology, and college information.
- Support and maintain the professional appearance of the library.
- Maintain physical library and archival materials, including shelving, shifting books, shelf reading, and inventory.
- Maintain the confidentiality of all patron records for the library and archives.
- Perform general administrative and clerical tasks including scanning and computer equipment use.
- Collect and maintain data on library and archives use as directed.
- Assist with archival processing: accessing, describing, preserving, conserving, and scanning archival materials.
- Create and maintain displays and marketing materials.
- Assist with reference requests, create displays, and staff the circulation desk as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent and current GHC undergraduate student.
- Currently Meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP).
- Current‑Year FAFSA on file with all verifications completed.
- Currently enrolled for at least six (6) credit hours.
- Some prior experience is preferred but not required; job‑specific training will be provided.

Salary$12 per hour.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities- No prior knowledge of archives required, but willingness to learn.
- Ability to communicate well verbally and in writing.
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Willingness to learn job‑related skills and systems, including new technology, policy, and procedure.
