ERM is seeking a Principal Consultant, Environmental FERC Project Manager to assist with current client development, new business development, and industry awareness. This position requires prior consulting experience and FERC experience. The role focuses on energy projects with responsibility for advancing permitting and compliance associated with development of Natural Gas Act‑regulated projects in the United States, including natural gas transmission and liquefied natural gas (LNG).

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manage large and complex projects, either single or multi‑site, on time and to budget, including scope, budgeting, resourcing, planning, coordinating field and technical work, and managing health, safety, and risk aspects.
  • Act as client point of contact and lead an interdisciplinary team supporting environmental impact assessment and regulatory permitting (baseline studies, facility siting and routing, land use planning, mitigation) and regulatory compliance during construction, commissioning, start‑up, and operations.
  • Manage multiple projects concurrently, including major natural gas, LNG, hydrogen, renewables, and carbon sequestration facility projects throughout the United States.
  • Generate technical proposals, identify new leads, and participate in business development with existing clients to maintain relationships and support repeat business.
  • Lead strategic meetings with regulatory agencies to address regulatory and/or legislative requirements such as state siting review applications/processes.
  • Engage with key regulatory agencies, including FERC, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, National Marine Fisheries Service, EPA, federal land management agencies, and State Historic Preservation Offices.
  • Contribute technical, subject‑matter, or project‑management expertise on environmental critical issue assessments, impact assessment deliverables, and overall quality‑control review.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Environmental Studies, Planning, Geography, Civil or Environmental Engineering, Geology, or a related natural resources science field. Equivalent experience accepted.
  • Prior consulting experience.
  • 6+ years (10 years preferred) of environmental impact assessment and natural resources permitting experience on FERC‑regulated projects, including consulting for private‑sector clients.
  • At least 5 years of experience managing the permitting of large natural gas and LNG projects, including oversight of complex FERC applications.
  • Working knowledge of key natural resource regulations, including NEPA, Section 404 of the Clean Water Act, Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act, Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, and Section 7 of the Endangered Species Act.
  • Experience with federal, state, and local permitting.
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office Suite.
  • Strong research and writing skills to prepare clear technical documents.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to convey complex technical concepts to clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders.
COMPENSATION

Annual base pay range: $129,195 – $152,500 (USD). The base pay will be based on education, qualifications, certifications, experience, geographic location, performance, shift, travel, and business needs. The role is also eligible for an annual discretionary performance bonus.
