Job Description

Overall Program

Activities:

* Assist in coordinating literacy efforts across the Office of College and Career Readiness

* Establish and maintain meaningful collaboration between the language and literacy consultants and literacy coaches and literacy-related efforts across the agency

* Use data to assess and inform literacy programs and develop technical assistance for school districts

* Establish partnerships that support literacy development efforts in Missouri, including communicating and collaborating with LEAs across the State of Missouri

* Follow the DESE work calendar

* Adhere to Missouri coaching protocols and procedures

* Plan and attend monthly statewide literacy coach meetings

* Participate in mid-year and end-of-year performance evaluations

* Provide support and supervision to assigned literacy coaches and to assigned schools

* Work with literacy coaches to effectively identify the needs of assigned schools to prioritize, schedule, organize, and provide technical assistance

* Complete other duties and functions as assigned by DESE

Planning/Communication/Collaboration

Activities:

* Collaborate with other initiatives and interagency work of the RPDCs and DESE to provide support to the language and literacy consultants, literacy coaches, and LEAs

Meeting/Conference

Activities:

* Attend and participate in monthly, multi-day meetings, with literacy coaches, specialists, and consultants at the direction of DESE

* Attend, participate in, and present at conferences as requested by DESE

Shift

* The Regional Literacy Assistant Director is expected to travel within the state as needed, and travel for attendance at DESE required meetings/conferences

* This position should expect frequent travel throughout the state, including other RPDC areas

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Specialized Knowledge/

Experience:

* Master's degree in education with 3 years documented experience teaching reading OR bachelor's degree with 5 years documented experience teaching reading with a minimum of 3 years of literacy experience at the School, District, or State level

* Documented teaching experience in teaching K-3 reading

* Documented successful coaching/leadership experience

* Documented successful experience designing professional development specific to literacy instruction

* Completion of Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling (LETRS) Volume I and II Training

Specialized Certification:

* Elementary teaching certificate

* Training in the science of reading

Specialized

Skills:

* Documented experience in reading/literacy or related field

* Documented experience in a supervisory role

* Documented experience providing professional development to educators and/or coaches to achieve the goals of Missouri's Read, Lead, Exceed initiatives

* Experience analyzing and using school, district, and state student achievement data for instructional decision making

* Ability to express complex ideas to a variety of audiences clearly and concisely both orally and in writing

* Ability to manage diverse activities and meet established deadlines

* Ability to establish and maintain rapport and effective working relationships with Department staff and local school LEA personnel

* Ability to analyze complex educational problems and develop feasible solutions

Anticipated Hiring Range

The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $52,916 annually.

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
