The Department

The Department of History offers a 40‑unit BA in history with emphases in world history, European history, and the history of the Americas, as well as regional and thematic courses. An MA in history is also available with separate thesis and comprehensive exam tracks. Faculty are active researchers and writers who integrate scholarship into teaching, community outreach, museum curatorship, and oral‑historical work.

Duties of the Position
  • Teach HIST 252:
    History of the United States Since 1865, a lower‑division survey course covering major political, social, economic, and cultural developments from Reconstruction to the present.
  • Design, deliver lectures and discussion‑based learning activities, assign and assess written work and examinations, and provide timely, constructive feedback to support student learning.
  • Work effectively, respectfully, and collaboratively in diverse, multicultural, and inclusive settings.
  • Support the university’s shared commitment to ethical inquiry, civic engagement, social responsibility, and global awareness.
Required Qualifications
  • PhD in History or a related discipline. ABD PhD candidates may also be considered.
Rank and Salary

Full‑time is a 15‑unit workload per semester. Salary is commensurate with degree level and experience, with a provisional monthly base of $5,507–$6,677 for a full‑time month, prorated to the number of units taught and paid in six monthly installments per semester. Temporary appointments are part‑time, semester‑by‑semester, and are contingent upon departmental needs and funding. No relocation expenses are provided for temporary faculty.
