Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Cost Accountant plays a critical role in supporting working capital optimization, maintaining accurate inventory valuation, driving cost visibility, and acting as a bridge between Finance, Supply Chain, and Operations. The Cost Accountant has excellent data management and accurate record keeping skills, the ability to collaborate effectively across multiple functions, and operate in a fast-paced environment in a confidential manner.
Key Responsibilities- Monitor RM/WIP/FG inventory levels and analyze DOH, inventory turns, and slow/obsolete stock.
- Support working capital optimization by identifying excess inventory and recommending corrective actions.
- Maintain and update fully burdened FG Cost models including material, labor and overhead rates.
- Validate material demand plans and provide cost visibility (standard/last/landed costs) to purchasing team to support purchasing decisions.
- Analyze PPV, material usage variances, labor and overhead absorption and scrap rate.
- Monitor daily ERP inventory postings including receipts, transfers, consumption of RM, scrap, FG receipts, and sales shipments.
- Prepare monthly inventory roll-forward, reconciliations, and COGS schedules to support month-end close
- Provide documentation for internal and external audits; ensure compliance with IFRS/US GAAP.
- Develop SOPs and train cross-functional teams on inventory and cost accounting procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Director of Finance or delegate.
A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field with at least five years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience required.
- Technical proficiency in accounting software required – experience in Business Central, SAP or Oracle, considered an asset
- Advance Excel Skills required – Power Bi experience considered an asset
- Strong understanding of standard costing, BOM’s, and manufacturing processes
- Strong analytical skills, communication (written and verbal), attention to detail, and ability to work cross functionally
- CPA/CMA considered an asset
Salary Range: $80,000 to $105,000 Annually
