Construction Manager – Layer Operations

Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Construction Manager to lead the planning, coordination, and execution of new layer chicken barn construction and facility upgrades across our network. This role is responsible for overall project management and field execution, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and aligned with company standards. The position requires approximately 75% travel and a strong background in poultry operations and poultry facility construction.

This role will oversee construction contracts and ensure compliance but will not be responsible for negotiating contract terms. The Construction Manager will work closely with farmers and contractors to drive successful project outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Project Management & Execution

• Lead and manage all phases of layer barn construction projects from pre-construction through commissioning.
• Develop and manage project timelines, budgets, and deliverables.
• Serve as the primary field liaison between farmers, contractors, and internal teams.
• Conduct frequent on-site visits to monitor progress, ensure quality, and address issues proactively.
• Ensure projects are executed according to approved designs, specifications, and company standards.

Contract Oversight & Coordination

• Oversee execution of construction contracts to ensure scope, timelines, and deliverables are met.
• Monitor contractor performance and ensure adherence to agreed terms and project milestones.
• Coordinate closely with farmers to support understanding of project scope, timelines, and expectations.
• Escalate contract performance concerns internally when needed (no direct contract negotiation responsibility).

Technical & Operational Oversight

• Provide subject matter expertise on layer housing systems
• Oversee installation of ventilation, feeding, watering, electrical, manure handling, and egg collection systems.
• Ensure biosecurity standards are integrated into facility design and construction practices.
• Partner with live production teams to ensure facilities are optimized for bird welfare and performance.

Budget & Reporting

• Track capital project spend against approved budgets.
• Provide regular status updates on schedule, cost, and risk to leadership.
• Maintain documentation for inspections, permits, and project closeout.

• 5+ years of experience in poultry construction management or related field.
• Strong background in commercial layer operations.
• Demonstrated experience managing construction of poultry facilities.
• Solid understanding of poultry housing systems, ventilation, and equipment installation.
• Experience managing multiple concurrent projects.
• Strong communication skills with ability to work effectively with farmers and contractors.
• Willingness and ability to travel up to 75%.
